CAREER PROSPECTS
At present, there is a wide gap between the requirement and
availability of technical personnel and the aviation industry is
feeling constrained. The gap is likely to widen further with
the retirement of old and experienced technical personnel in the
immediate future. Added to this is the rapid increase in the
number of Aircrafts being operated by both the Public and
Private sector airlines, which is further demanding more and
more AME s. Thus, there is more than ample scope for a decent,
highly remunerative and exciting job in the glamorous field of
aviation for those who are well trained in Aircraft Maintenance
Engineering.
F A Qs
Q.What
is the Eligibility to join this profession?
Academic Qualification: 10+2
Physical Standards: Height: 5'3"
Eye sight: Normal
Age: 18 to 28 years
Good communication skills And Aptitude
Q.When
are the Examinations held?
Depending on the requirements of individual Airlines
examinations are held by DGCA.
Q.What
is the duration of training?
3 to 4 Years .
Q.What
are the job prospects in Aviation Industry?
Few new Airlines are coming up in the domestic sector. Their
cases are pending with the authorities for final approval and
any time it is expected that they will be issued with necessary
permissions. Further it is realized that major Government
Airlines are in the process of reducing the age limit of serving
cabin crew for flying jobs. They will need quite a good number
of fresh hands. Similarly the process of privatization is also
in the anvil which will result in induction of fresh hands,
which will eventually go to trained persons.
Q.
What is the Salary structure for beginners?
Rs.4,000 to Rs.20,000 per month depending on the merits plus
flying allowances along with other facilities like Medical,
Conveyance, Free Air travel, Uniform etc.
Q.
What are the job prospects in Ground jobs in Aviation?
There are a lot of vacancies for trained persons in Aviation and
International Airlines.
Q.
How is the Salary structure in Ground jobs?
Rs.3,000 to Rs.10,000 per month along with other benefits like
Medical, Conveyance, Free Air travel, Uniform etc.
Q. Can women perform successfully the duel role as home and at
work given the job schedules?
A. Yes. It’s like any other job on the earth, of course, in the
sky. The pilots are posted and operated from the airports they
are attached to. They have ample free time which can be devoted
to the family.
Q It is believed that the tenure as a Pilot is limited to very
short span of time and one has to retire from the services at
relatively tender age thus making the rest of his/her life
unoccupied. Is it true?
A. No. It’s a misconception prevails. One can render his/her
services as a pilot as long as he/she could live up to the
standards specified. Their retirement age is like any other
profession between 58 and 60 years.
Q. How important is the role of an AME in an Airliner ?
A. It’s like the heart to a human body. Unless and until the AME
nods positive, the voyage is grounded.
Q. How different is the job from that of Engineers in other
fields of transport?
A. A. It’s different altogether. Every flight has to be
certified prior to take off of all the sections viz., Airframes,
Radio Equipment, radar system etc., which are equally crucial
for a flight. Any shortcomings in these areas may prove
fatal. Hence, more responsibility lies with AMEs when compared
to other modes of transport.

Scope :
Civil Aviation Industry in India has made a significant progress
during the last two decades. The passenger traffic growth in the
Asia Pacific region and particularly the countries in South East
Asia is expected to be the fastest followed closely by the South
Asian region, especially India.
With the implementation of liberalization policies of the Government
of India in the recent years, there has been a tremendous growth in
the economy on all fronts including aviation. There has been a
general shortage of trained and qualified personnel for the airlines
and to meet this growing need
The decade has marked a tremendous growth in air travel and space
related operations. An increasing number of aero planes will be
required to meet this tremendous operations. An ever increasing
number of aero planes will be required to meet this tremendous
demand and more aero planes require an increasing need for aircraft
engineers and technicians. This growth, combined with the retirement
of thousands of aircraft engineers and technicians over the next
five years and the added maintenance required by the ageing fleet of
aircraft causes a steady shortage for engineers and technicians.
Aircraft engines, structure and equipment require preventive
maintenance based on hours flown unlike automobile engines which are
serviced only when broken. Director General of Civil Aviation (D G C
A), Govt. of India, requires regular inspections, maintenance and
mechanical repair of all the Indian aircraft to be performed only by
certified engineers and technicians.
These are some answers given by experts which may act as a mile
stone in choosing airline as a career :
